This week I hit some of the spring half-off sales all over town! I was looking for a specific style of suit coat, which I never found, but I found great deals.

Just for fun, I tried on a size 12 suit because I liked it and there wasn’t one in the size 14 I’d normally go for. I was amazed that it fit and fit well!

As I stared at the person in the mirror, it hit me, as it does at random times, I am a new person.

shoppingHated Shopping

When I weighed 430 pounds, I abhorred going shopping. First of all, I hated the walking from parking lot to store, walking around the store, trying on clothes. It would have exhausted me.

I never went shopping for myself because I couldn’t find clothes to fit me. All my clothes were bought on line. I would go with my daughter, but even that wore me out.

It was not a fun experience.

On the Losing Side

Once I lost even 50 pounds, though I began to find I could go to the big discount store we’re all familiar with and sometimes find 4x tops to fit me. Shopping began to be a little more interesting.

I remember the first time I went to a department store with my daughter and discovered clothes in their plus size department that fit me.

Still I longed for the normal size 12s that my daughter wore. It seemed they had such a larger variety to choose from. I loved the colors, but always thought I would be like a big target if I bought a bright pink or purple top.

And to find something on the sales rack in my size almost never happened.

Where Am I?

In the last few years, I’ve had to reroute my brain to realize I neeedn’t look on the plus size side of my favorite store. I go the normal women’s sizes. Seriously, after years of programming it comes naturally to go to the wrong side.

In the normal size side, I have discovered an entirely new world of color and variety. Clothes shopping is now one of my favorite past times. It gives me joy.

It also gives me pause to remember where I was and where I am now. I remember the heartache and pain of where I was. Shopping was the least of my worries. Still it was another reminder of the truth of my situation.

I wanted more than anything for someone who had been where I was at the moment to come and tell me they had overcome and I could too. I searched for books and weight loss plans that could help me.

I found none. Even those plans marked “Christian” didn’t tell me how to overcome what felt to me like a problem too big for even God to handle.

I learned the hard way. I accepted that I had an overwhelming problem. I owned that I am a sugar addict. And I began acting against what I had just owned and started walking out my journey.

I couldn’t have done it without others, another and the Other. Others were my weight loss group, peers who had the same problem I did to give me support. Another was a mentor and coach who had been there and overcome the problem. The Other, of course, is the power of God, my Savior, my Lord and King.

Out of My Greatest Mess

Now, out of my greatest mess has come my greatest message. I’m on a quest to teach others what I’ve learned. I have several resources that will help you and yes, they cost money.

It’s funny to me how we will spend thousands of dollars on weight loss program, plans, shakes, pills and remedies, but we think if it’s a Christian answer there should be no cost. I’ve offered my program for free to some people and here’s what I found. If they have NO investment, they do not take it seriously.

I lead people to overcome, but it is not a quick fix. It is a lasting change and change takes time and commitment. So if you’re willing to begin your lifestyle change, a journey to a better you the first step I recommend is my new course, Sweet Change 101: Seven Keys for the Weight Loss Journey.

The course will give you the basics of what you need to begin your journey. IF you find you need additional help and want me to help coach you on your journey, I would be honored to have you join, Sweet Change Weight Loss Coaching Group.

I have books and video short courses that will also help you. All of these are on my website under the resources or videos tabs.
