So, you’ve tried to lose weight and you’ve failed and now you have just decided to throw in the towel and give up. You’d rather just keep eating whatever you want to eat than always feel like a failure.
On the other hand you know your weight is slowly killing you. You’re tired all the time. You’re angry. You can’t get your housework done. You can’t run and play with your children and you have zero interest in spending a fun evening with your husband. As a matter of fact you are in so much pain from how your body feels you can’t even think about a fun night with the one you love.
You just feel like a total failure and don’t know how to get up and start over. You cry out to God. “Why can’t it be easy? Why do I have to have to struggle with weight? Why can’t I just eat a normal amount and stop? Why did you make me this way God?”
In kindness and mercy, God gently answers you. “My child, you have a weakness. If you lay your addiction to overindulging in foods at My feet, I will give you My strength1 for your journey. But you must own it as your weakness. You must understand you have gone against the things you know I have been cautioning you about for years. I long for you to come to Me. My arms are always open to you.”
And you run to Him because you believe God can forgive you. And He can and does.
Then, He tells you, you MUST also forgive yourself. You cannot wallow in guilt and shame. You’ve failed, yes, but God has grace for that.
“We have forgiveness for our failures based on his overflowing grace, which he poured over us with wisdom and understanding.”2
Every human being has made bad choices. We are free to make choices. God has blessed us with life, family and friends. But He will abundantly pour His grace over us when we start walking the path of obedience.
Our Choice Leads to Our Destiny
We KNOW the right choices. We have to SEE with our eyes of faith where we can be and what our destiny is.
“We have become God’s poetry, a recreated people that will fulfill the destiny He has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it.”3
You may be teaching the next Billy Graham. Your husband may cure cancer. You may write a bestseller and start a speaking career. Or you may live a peaceful life rocking your grandbabies on your front porch.
I don’t know your destiny or the destiny of those you are to influence for the Kingdom, but God does. And He knows you must tackle your “demons” in order to get to your destiny and help others get to theirs. If you cannot do it for yourself, do it for them.
Give It To God
It starts with handing each difficulty to God and asking Him what do you give me in exchange? Jesus, I hand you sugar, what do you give me in exchange? It’s about stop-start. It’s about changing your neural pathways. It’s about living the fasted lifestyle, which brings such freedom. It’s about laying down each thing that is keeping you in bondage.
Eating whatever we think we want is a trap of Satan, just like the tree that God told Adam not to eat of and Eve decided it was pleasing to the eye and probably good to her taste4 and she made a choice. There’s always a choice.
Her choice brought the curse of death into the world. God put the angel to guard the tree of life.5 Why? He didn’t want us to live forever in the clutches of sin. He gave us a way out. There is always a choice.
Choose life and God blesses you. Choose death and you struggle with what looks good, but leads to pain and misery when you partake.6
When we do that fully, when we ask Him to forgive us, when we repent, which means to turn around and go the other way, He brings all of His resources to help us. He pours His grace over us and not in a haphazard way, but with wisdom and understanding to build us into soldiers for the KINGDOM army.
I was reminded when being interviewed yesterday for an article in a local magazine of a book that made a profound impact on me when I weighed probably over 430 pounds. In The Presence of Mine Enemies is missionaries Martin and Gracia Burnham’s story of being kidnapped by the Filipino rebels and drug through the jungle for over a year. They endured great difficulties. Gracia describes in depth the horror of everyday life and how they wished they could die. Martin did die in the rescue attempt.
Reading the story I knew I would have been dead the first day because I would have either been left to die or shot because I couldn’t keep up. I was not fit for that mission or any mission God sent me on. That was in 2003.
Does Your Life Matter?
It really hit me hard that for my life to matter, I have to change my lifestyle. A few years before that is when the doctor told me I had five years to live. I needed to get serious about living.
We blow many choices in life. Don’t look at your failures. Ask forgiveness and put them behind you. You’ve been given another chance. Find resources to help you on the journey and start walking it out. I have many. Check HERE, HERE or HERE under the products tab.
I see Jesus holding out His hand to you and saying, “Will take this chance I’ve given you? It’s your choice. I always give you a choice. I also always ask for your answer. What is your decision? Life or Death? Blessing or Curses? Me or the foods you crave?”
