I was recreated today. Today I heard God’s voice and that’s all I need to know the process that started is continuing. Each and every day as long as I hear His voice, I will continue to be recreated.

eph 210 God's poetry

“We have become His poetry, a recreated people that will fulfill the destiny that He has give each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it.”1

Today I realized how recreation starts and what makes it an ongoing process. I had always thought it was an event. Now, I totally understand it is a process. However, every process has a starting point.

Beginning

Recreation begins at the point we admit we have a need for a Power greater than ourselves. We realize we are out of control in some area. For me it happened when I was seven and stole candy from the grocery store.

Up until that point I was queen of my world. At that point, I realized I needed a King to rescue me. And so I invited Jesus to be my King. He made me a new creation. The old junk, not much at this point but still monumental in my mind, was wiped away and I became new in Him.2

I was recreated. I, of course, hold on to that experience. Just like you, I am no longer seven years old.

Growth

Faith, to be real faith, must grow beyond the starting place. To fulfill the destiny God has given each of us, we must go forward.

For years, I was in school. Schools gave me certificates that said I passed high school, got a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. At the same time I was in church, gaining knowledge, learning scriptures and concepts.

The problem is many of us think intellectual knowledge is what propels us forward. That is only one ingredient for learning.

Unless whatever knowledge we learn in school is applicable to our lives, it will not make a difference. I’m really good at memorizing things for a short time, long enough to get a good grade. If I know it’s not something I’ll ever use again, I will intentionally forget it.

The same thing applies to scripture and theological concepts. They have to strike a chord with me; they have to hit me at a time when it’s a word just for me.

It has to go deep into my body, soul and spirit to take me from where I am right now to being recreated. To change, I cannot stay the same. I have to enter the process of change all over again if I am to ever begin to fulfill my destiny.

This heart change is really a difficult thing to describe. What is the formula for heart-change? It has to be more than just being saved from hell It has to be that we want so desperately to be more than who we are right now. It has to be a total recreation—body, soul and spirit.

Soul Stuff

The soul is this deep place where our emotions, thoughts and will are stored. It’s the essence of who we are. It’s where our character is formed. It is essentially where recreation begins.

Resonating within my soul as a child and young adult was this desire to do God’s will. It’s the “do” part that always got me in trouble. I thought God’s will was action, movement, doing stuff. For me that meant writing stuff, editing publications, interjecting God everywhere I could in the media I was involved in.

This is part of the initial change, but it is still not the total revolutionary change God wants.

Body Inclusion

This part is really not the most fun part for me to talk about. My body mass ballooned up to 430 pounds. Obviously I needed a massive recreation in this area.

There are always reasons, but to submit to the process I had to realize that my physical body is a part of the definition of recreation. After all it is the temple of the Holy Spirit3 and it is the container of my soul and spirit.

Without my body, I am nothing recognizable.

Spirit Completion

What does it take to change our spirit? It takes God’s spirit taking over total control. It takes surrendering each thing God shows me is taking precedence over Him in my life.

This process of recreation begins at a shallow level. but before I know it has gone deep into areas I only had an inkling existed.

Today, one more layer came off, a revealing layer of things deeply embedded in me. Another layer of fear. Another layer of lies and misconceptions.

Another layer that only God can remove by pouring truth into my entire being. This process happens only when we’re willing to be joined to Jesus, the Anointed One.

We cannot be joined, if we have a part that is rebelling. So today, I gave another lie God showed me needed to be renounced.

Embracing Truth

When I did that He gave me His truth. And as we know, it is always the truth and only the truth that sets us free.4

Truth is not what your mother, father, Sunday School teacher or pastor told you is truth. Truth is always what God reveals to you is truth. Sometimes well meaning people can share their truth which is not your truth.

However, if someone shares something with you that resonates deep within you, then for you it is truth. Always ask God. Always be careful to be sure it is your truth. Always examine it by scripture.

God’s deep abiding truth is what recreates us and sets us totally free.

Only when we are willing to accept His truth do we begin to step into the destiny He planned for us before we were born.5
