“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” John 10:10
At our local community recreation center we have a large indoor pool with several features. The one I enjoy every morning is a water walking track. I call it going with the flow.
Personally, I love the fact that there is a current which propels me along while I’m walking. I have some health issues that make it difficult to get good exercise on land. Going with the flow, though, I am hot stuff!
Some people go the opposite way or against the current. They are laboring. One or two laps and they are done.
In life, it seems some people want to make being happy very difficult. They look for enjoyment everywhere: drugs, alcohol, food, sex, money. Life to them is a struggle.
In reality the key is very simple. Jesus tells us that He came so that we might “have and enjoy life and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” In contrast, there are things that we try to put in the place of Jesus’ plan that only serve “to steal, kill and destroy” our lives.
Submitting to a Higher Power may be disconcerting to some. But when that Higher Power loves you so much that He died for you that makes all the difference in the world. And, He didn’t leave it at that. He rose again demonstrating He has power even over death.
Going any other direction, doesn’t make sense. Go with the flow. Follow Jesus.
In what ways have you tried to go against God’s current?
