It happened suddenly. One minute the skies were bright and the next they began to grow dark. The thunder starting rolling into the area from somewhere, probably from the north. It was one of those sudden Missouri thunderstorms even amidst the rain that followed, I could still see sunshine to the east of our house.

I was sitting all nice and cozy in my bedroom. It was during the time each morning where I spent intentional no agenda time in silence with God. So when the first thunderclap sounded, I asked, “Father God, what do you want me to know right now? What are you saying to me?”

As always there were things on my heart and mind. There were things I was concerned about. Oh, OK, yes, there were things I was worried about. I coach people all the time about releasing their cares and concerns to God.

Worrying about anything I cannot control does no good. When I worry a problem to death, it occupies my mind. That means when God speaks to me, I cannot hear because I have filled it with doom and gloom.

And God does speak, but many times the thoughts in my head are too loud to hear Him. This time, He spoke through the thunder and the rain. I wrote down what I felt He was saying to me and what I said back.

Then, He said. “Share this with my people. They need to know that I love them.”

That day He said to me. “My Child, my love for you will never be shaken. What you see, hear and feel can be deceiving. I have not forgotten you. I love you with an everlasting love.”

I answered, “But Father, I don’t deserve it. For years I dumped garbage into this body that you gave me. For years I ignored your gently prodding to eat right and live a healthy lifestyle.”

He said, “And today, you are doing what I showed you to do. I forgave your past shortcomings. They are washed away like the rain. I loved you then and I love you now and forever.

“And I water you with extravagant grace.”

Then, I felt this crazy prompting by the Holy Spirit to go out on my back porch and shoot a video about this encounter. A crazy, impromptu video during a rainy thunderstorm. I had to take my glasses off because the rain was coming down fast and hard. Even though I had a small roof over my head, I was still wet through and through.

When I finished the video, He prompted me to share it with you. I didn’t for awhile because, well,  this isn’t a pretty video of me. This is raw and unedited me.

I know, though, His heart is for us to understand that He wants to speak to us, to lead us, to fill our hearts even when we feel the rain pelting down, feel the wind blowing and hear the thunder booming.

Don’t be afraid He’s there. He’s reminding us that He is there to comfort us, walk with us and remind us of who He is.

This is a message that I believe God is speaking to His people. He wants us to share it with others. He’s not forgotten you.

He loves you with an everlasting love.

He is watering you with His extravagant grace today.
