What does it mean to be beautifully in over my head, God? I do feel like I’m in over my head, but it’s not that beautiful.
I do want You, God, and only You and Your plans and Your ways. I confess, though, sometimes if feels as if Your presence is far away and I can’t hear You.
I know You didn’t move. I know You are right here with me. Why does if feel like You sometimes watch and then, sometimes push me forward with such ease I feel like I’m floating on clouds?
What can I do so that I just coast all the time with ease and have none of the hard stuff?
That was my journal entry a couple of days ago. I will share with you what I feel was God’s response. My question to God comes from the song, “In Over My Head.” In the song, the singer is standing knee deep in the water which is further from the shore than she’s ever been, reminds me of Ezekiel 47:1-12.
She’s longing for more of God. He’s calling her to come out deeper. She says, “Further and further my heart moves away from the shore.” She finally gives up her fears of what will happen. She says, “I’m going under, I’m in over my head. Whether I sink, whether I swim.It makes no difference when I’m beautifully in over my head.”
Again it reminds me of the Ezekiel passage where the river of life flowing from the temple brings life to everything in it’s path even the things the areas that have never given life.
It’s in this context that I implored of God how can I float or be buoyed up by His Hand constantly in this state of effortlessness?
I’ll share with you some of what I feel God said to me. Let me know if it resonates with you as much as it did with me.
It is in the difficult times that your faith in Me is strengthened. I’m always here. I will tell you if you are going the wrong direction. Look to Me even when you can’t see a clear path ahead. Know that I’m speaking in your ear, directing you. My rod and my staff they comfort you. Why? Because they direct you, tap you lightly when you are going the wrong way, pull you back from the brink when you are about to fall.
Yes, you are in over your head, but not in a negative sense, like I’m over my head in stuff to do. You feel that way many times, I know. The truth is I will ONLY lead you when you know beyond a shadow of a doubt you are NOT in control of the situation. When you take your hands off, I will direct. I will control. I will guide.
Your head gets involved too much in My work. It is My work and not just My work that you think you and only you can do. It is MINE.
Anything that happens for promotion of anything you are involved in is ONLY because it was first My idea. The things that succeed were birthed by Me before you were born. I only lend them to you to steward and even in that, I guide you or they do not succeed. It was never yours and you know that. So give credit where credit is due, and all will be well.
Remember this when you think I am silent. Silence is not punishment. Silence is meant for you to honor Me. Honor Me with connecting with Me constantly. I want Me to be ALWAYS on your mind. I want your connection time with Me ramped up. Where you are going you need a rock solid connection, not an intermittent one.
Here is My truth. I am with you always to the end of the earth and beyond. Never despair. If I give you a job to do, I will give you the resources to get it done.
My grace is deeper than the ocean. You can cast every care, concern, disappointment, difficulty, overwhelming into that ocean and it will not make a dent. I want you to go out into the deep where you are beautifully in over your head.
See, when I am in control the ocean of grace is totally covering you and everything works correctly. When you are pushing through with self effort, oh My Dear, nothing happens. You’ve been in self-effort. Wondering, trying, that’s why your head hurts. Let me lift that load from you.
I am with you always.
