I heard you and I responded. I reopened the doors to #KickWeight for the absolute last time. It’s for 72 hours only. Friday at midnight doors are firmly closed, bolted and locked. That’s all the extra time I can give you.
Transparency and Commitment
I value transparency and commitment and those in this second session of #KickWeight are learning to have both. It’s not easy when we’ve been trying to hide and skirt issues all of our lives.
This group, though is responding to the challenges with the bravery of David and are definitely facing their own Goliaths whether it is 10 or over 300 pounds. They are determined to defeat the monster.
They hail from all over the US and several foreign countries, missionaries, full-time Christian workers, chaplains, mothers, nurses, caregivers and so many more. I’m inspired by all these beautiful people.
Without a doubt this group is going to do amazing things and I want you to be a part of it. The last group lost 408 pounds but it only had about half of the members this group has. Although we just started Oct. 1, some have lost over 10 pounds already!
As I pray over each one, see their pictures and hear their stories my heart cries out to them. I know their stories. Their stories, except for a few twists and turns, read like mine.
The despair of not being able to kick the weight that so easily entangles them1 gets overwhelming and they just want to run and hide. Many don’t even want to face the reality of what is going on with them.
Quick fix diets don’t make us face the truth of where we are. They just offer ridiculously oversimplified versions of move more and eat less. We are not stupid. We know that.
When I weighed 430 pounds and yet another skinny dietitian who obviously had never been overweight a day in her life would hand me another food list of what to eat and not to eat, I’d just throw it in the trash on the way out.
“That’s not what I need,” I wanted to shout. “I need to know why I’m eating when I just ate. I need to know why I eat when I really do want to lose weight. I need to know how to get rid of this monstrous habit that has attacked me and won’t let go no matter how much I scream!”
We know there’s something else going on inside of us. There’s something deeper. We know that, but getting a handle on it seems impossible.
The Bible calls this a stronghold2or addiction. In my book it’s what happens when we allow something other than God to have control over us—body, soul and spirit.3
I know this is what I had allowed to happen. Food definitely controlled my physical body. We think that’s the whole substance of the problem—our physical body. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
There’s this part of us called the soul, which includes our mind, will and emotions. That part is leading us off course. Our emotions are governed by situations in our past. Our minds have been programmed to go to foods for companionship, comfort and protection. This is not what food is for. It is fuel and the sooner we understand that the better off we are.
Then there’s our spirit. Many times we don’t realize our spirit is now subject to God’s Spirit. He’s inside us but we are not accessing everything He makes available to us. Why? We don’t know how.
More Important Than Food
All of these things are far more important than the food we eat. If we understand the principles behind why we run to food instead of God, we will finally begin the total transformation journey that we so desperately need.
I went on my weight loss journey not understanding that I needed a total overhaul. I needed to be taken down to my foundation and even have that examined before I began to rebuild.
These are some of the things we do in #KickWeight. It’s far more than a weight loss group. It’s a total transformation group.
I reopened the doors because I know there are at least 10 more people out there who need this group. Are you one of them? I must close the doors Friday night. I’ve kept them open past the time I planned, but after all it’s not my plans that matters. It’s God’s. He said keep them open until Friday, October 21 at midnight. It is my desire to always obey what He says.
Don’t keep sitting on the fence. Get down. You won’t lose anything up there, but time. Make the decision that matters. Go to this link. Do it now. Time’s a wastin’. Here’s the url: http://teresshieldsparker.com/KickWeight.
