Resolved: I will do what God wants me to. Well, unless of course it interferes with what I want to do or if it is too difficult or if I have to totally change my life, but anything else I will do for sure. Yep, I’m your woman God, all the way.

So, God, what is it You want me to do?

I want you to be healthy.

Hear No EvilWell, yeah, God, that might be a little difficult for me. Cooking for the whole family and figuring out what they will eat and not eat is like trying to put together a 500-piece puzzle. Johnny won’t eat vegetables. Matty doesn’t like anything, but French fries. Arnie won’t eat chicken or fish. Julie says fruit is gross. And Harold must have dessert at every meal. It would mean a radical change for everyone for me to change how we eat. And I have no time to cook special stuff just for me. That just wouldn’t work into my schedule.

I want YOU to be healthy.

So it this about those jeans I bought and couldn’t get zipped up? I just gained a little water weight. So I’ll cut back on the salt. But right now, I am really busy running a busy household, picking up kids from school, taking them to practices, helping Harold with the bookkeeping end of the business, being women’s ministry director at church and all my other volunteer stuff. I just don’t have time to exercise or any of that stuff. It would take at least an hour at the gym, 30 minutes there and back. Nope, doesn’t work for me.

I want you to BE healthy.

Of course, I’d love to just be for a while. Maybe take a little rest. Maybe spend a weekend away just Harold and I. Even just an evening would be great, but I have to BE on all the time. There’s leading the women’s ministry at church, planning the annual conference, helping with outreach ministry and, of course, I have to help teach the budgeting class down at the enrichment center. I’m doing these things for You. I don’t have time to BE anything else.

I want you to be HEALTHY.

God really, I’m not trying to be disrespectful. I don’t disagree. I do want to be healthy, but I can’t pull away from everything else just for myself. That would be … selfish. I’m trying to not eat so much bread, but You know the time constraints I’m under and I have to eat something. A sandwich at the burger place just saves time and I don’t have a lot of time. So, healthy might have to wait for another day because right now it’s just not a good time for me to begin a major lifestyle change.

So, God what is it You’d like me to do for the Annual Women’s Conference?

I want you to be healthy.

That again? I am really good at planning conferences. I can do a lot of things. You gave me all these strengths so just tell me something I CAN do instead of all this stuff You obviously know I’m no good at. I don’t know HOW to be healthy, got it, God? I don’t know how. Let me do something I know how to do.

Are You listening God?

I want you to be healthy.

What is with the broken record responses, God? I’m running short on time here. Got to pick up Matty in five minutes.

If you were listening, you would understand I have given you the instructions I want you to carry out for yourself. I’ve told you before. Stop eating sugar. Eat more meats, fruits and vegetables. Don’t eat so much bread. It’s not rocket science. A gifted woman like you can and must do this with My help.

God, I appreciate Your concern, but I’m okay. Really. Yes, I need to lose some weight, but nothing terrible has happened so far. I’ll do better. I promise, but what You are asking is that I change my entire life. It’s just not convenient for me right now. I’ve got a lot of stuff on my plate and becoming healthy just isn’t one of them.

This is My warning. You will never do another thing, if you do not put your health first.

If you are not healthy, you can not carry out my mission. You can not be a wife. You can not be a mother. You can not be the women’s director. You can not handle a conference. You can not DO anything. I want you to BE healthy. I want you to make yourself the most important project you’ve ever undertaken.

I want you to love yourself with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.1 And then I want you to love your neighbor the same way. And I want you to love Me the same way.

If you do not care for yourself, you CAN NOT care for any of those I’ve entrusted to you.

Here’s what I want for you. I want you to become my poetry, a recreated person who will fulfill the destiny I have given you. Even before you were born, I planned in advance your destiny and the good works you would do to fulfill it.2

It’s time NOW. If you don’t act now, your time for acting will be over. I want you to be my trophy of grace,3 but you can not shine if you are not polished. I will help you, but the first step is yours.

Will you take it?
