By now, you’ve probably figured out I’m not like the other weight loss folks out there. I have my way of eating, but I don’t tell you that’s how you have to eat. I don’t give you a meal planner or a what to eat or not to eat. I don’t tell you what to do because you’ve probably been on every diet imaginable.
I’m not here to give you another diet sheet that you throw in the trash can. May I be so bold as to say that what I want for you is a total lifestyle change? I will never promise you easy.Your transformation will be difficult. If you want easy, stop reading now and go spend another 30 years, if you live that long, throwing money at every quick, easy fix. By that time, I’ll be dancing in heaven and I won’t be around to help you.
If you’re still with me, let me give you three of my weird and crazy “diet-less” tips.
Tip #1—Own Your Plan
Since I’ve lost 260 pounds, people always want me to share how I eat. I’m happy to do that. However, I also share how I got to that place. To me that’s more important because it has to be a plan that’s yours, that you will follow for the rest of your life. It’s not the latest greatest fad diet. It’s not Teresa’s plan. It’s your plan.
If you ask, God will lead you to your plan, but then you have to own it. No one forced you into a plan or promised you it would work. It’s all on you. It’s yours. Own it.
In #KickWeight I will talk about the ins and outs of various plans. I’ll tell you why I eat the way I eat. And we’ll talk about how to ascertain what God wants for you and what you know works for you. You’ll be surprised to learn that the truth is hiding in a pretty unlikely place.
Tip #2—Don’t Eat Only What You Want
Hey, did you know broccoli tastes great? I never did because I never wanted to even try it. Why eat broccoli or salad, when cinnamon rolls and peach cobbler were in abundance?
For years, I based the way I ate simply on what I wanted in the moment. What do I want for supper? Where do I want to go out to eat? I want a snack. I want the rest of the oatmeal cookies I baked this afternoon, all dozen and a half that are left.
Eating what you want is doing what your flesh craves.1 This will lead you wrong every single time. We’ve all heard the enemy’s lies, “You deserve that. You’ve had a hard day. You’re hungry and tired. You won’t make it home unless you stop and get the thing you are craving.” And so we cave. This is not a good plan to own.
Understanding we’re our own worst enemy is a big step on the journey. There are quite a few other ingredients to overcoming temptations. It is possible to avoid some of the major pitfalls that have always taken you under. More about that in #KickWeight.
Tip #3—God Is A Nutritionist
God wants us healthy. John told his followers, “Dear friend, I am praying that all is well with you and that your body is as healthy as I know your soul is.”2
Paul told the Corinthians, “Haven’t you yet learned that your body is the home of the Holy Spirit God gave you, and that He lives within you? Your own body does not belong to you. For God has bought you with a great price. So use every part of your body to give glory back to God because He owns it.”3
God knows all about us. He made our bodies. He wants us healthy and fit for the Kingdom. He lives within us to give us Holy Spirit-driven power to fulfill our destiny here on earth. All we need to do is ask Him to lead us, and He will. We’ll talk about how that works in #KickWeight.
Not the Tips You Were Looking For?
Yep, the enemy will tell you that. Because even though they might not have been the tips you wanted, when you understand how to use them, they become weapons of warfare in the fight for your health.
